Why you can trust us

Lauren Brooks is an ergonomist and sleep coach who previously worked at a physical therapy practice. For this guide we tested 10 models over 8 weeks in our test house. We bought most models ourselves; loaned units were returned after testing. Manufacturers don’t see our conclusions before publication.

Who is this for?

A cordless mower is quiet, starts instantly and needs less maintenance than a gas mower. For yards up to about 5,400 sq ft it’s more than enough.

How we tested

We mowed short and long grass, wet and dry, on flat and sloped lawns. We measured runtime per battery, noise and how well the grass bag filled.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a battery last?+

A lithium-ion battery lasts 500 to 800 charge cycles on average. For most yards, that’s five to eight years.

Can I mow wet grass?+

You can, but the result looks worse and the bag clogs faster.
